Farrier Covering: Cheshire, Staffordshire, Shropshire

Dom has been around horses and ponies from a young age. He began riding when he was 7 when his family moved to small holding just outside Eccleshall, from then he soon developed a passion for show jumping, His mom took a gamble and bought a pony out of a field with the hope that it would jump! With Dom’s hard work and determination his moms gamble paid off and the ponies talent had been unveiled. He traveled the country with “Spooky” competing with the BSJA, and at the age of 16 he reached his goal as he went on to win the newcomers at horse of the year show in 1996. He continued riding and competing locally as a senior but no horse lived up to this pony! Dom still owns his own horses “Mo” and “Ted” but only gets time to hack out at weekends.

He began showing an interest in farriery when the farrier used to come and shoe his ponies, When he left school at 16 he was lucky enough to gain an apprenticeship with Russell Chadwick a well know farrier from Leek. During his time with Russell he attended Warwickshire College until the age of 22 when he graduated as a qualified farrier. Dom then decided to take a year out traveling visiting Canada, Australia and New Zealand. On his return as well as working with Russell he spent some time gaining valuable experience and developing his skills, working alongside other experienced local farrier’s. He still keeps in close contact with Russell who remains a very good friend.

He began building his successful business not long after his travels and today has a large client base which extends around Staffordshire, Shropshire and Cheshire, including Nantwich, Alsager, Sandbach, Market Drayton and Eccleshall. He works alongside local vets discussing referrals and liaising with them regarding various radiographs and remedial farriery.

He will always be seen with his two rescue Jack Russell Terriers “ Buttons “ and “Whalley”, who guard his van while he is working!

Dom has a passion for animal welfare; he does regular work for the Greek charity GAWF (Greek animal welfare fund) he goes on regular working holidays to the Greek islands where he will trim and shoe donkeys and horses, as well as educating the locals on the correct hoof care of their animals. In the summer of 2009 Dom and his colleagues organised a charity event at his parent’s farm to raise money for GAWF after a lot of hard work by all it was a fantastic night with over 300 guests, charity auction, raffle live band and disco they raised over £5000 for the charity!
